In a nutshell:.

I’m a Charleston-based photorealistic oil painter whose work primarily focuses on natural subjects like landscapes and wildlife; however, my intense study of hyperrealism and multimedia has resulted in additional series called “A Closer Look,” “Bar Shelves,” and some works-in-progress that I’ll be sharing this spring!

  • Through photography, a moment is frozen and an image is flattened, but my practice of photorealistic painting creates new life by reenergizing and redefining a subject by introducing hypersatured colors and strategic marks.  A photo’s vehicle and information source are equally as important as the subject itself, creating a visual style representative of a specific era and space. Representationalism does not simply boast a technical skill by duplicating a picture, but it elevates a scene as a statement in an attempt to relay my relationship to it through careful examination and hyperfixation. My style of photorealism and hyperrealism are where memories and experience converge with craftsmanship, technology and choice, joyfully pushing the boundaries between realism and expressionism.

I paint with sincere reverence and love of our environments and experiences as the beautiful, gifts we all share: how truly fortunate we are to access both art and nature so freely, and the joy to make human connections within it. My hope is that my paintings provide an additional opportunity to question our perception of space and color, to contemplate the concept of creation- whether artistically or divinely- and appreciate the structures, forms, and fine details within the natural world, and to question the idea of the authentic versus the artificial; the manufactured versus the organic.

In 2023, I began my three-year career as The Gallery at Sweetgrass Resident Artist where I made hundreds of paintings, built a loyal collector base, and developed a deeper under understanding of the gallery business and my artistic style.

I was one of four artists Invited to the Etsy headquarters in 2019 to tour their facilities and learn marketing and networking strategies from an Etsy-sponsored program.

  • I’ve been a painter my entire life. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a brush in my hand, painting whatever inspired me at the time: from animals, to Disney characters, to boybanders or beer bottles.  Originating from the upstate of South Carolina, I received my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Clemson University in 2010 with a focus in oil painting.  My time at Clemson helped me hone and define my style as a photorealist as I worked diligently to meet the demand of quality work within tight deadlines. Later after 4 years of working as a designer and operations manager at a screen printing company, I became a mom and combined my skills to open an Etsy store called Singing Birds Art where I made photorealistic pet portraits. My very successful 7-year run resulted in tops sales and being invited to Etsy’s headquarters in Brooklyn, NY in 2019 to tour their facilities and learn additional marketing strategies. My experience as a photorealistic painter over the last decade has taught me much about the evolution of our media exposure and visual experience as the quality of our photos and choice of artistic experience has drastically changed. Both my observation and execution as a painter have developed into a distinguishable style that I explored as Resident Artist at The Gallery at Sweetgrass from 2023-2026, and I continue to grow from my home studio.

  • I’m a South Carolina native and have lived in Charleston for over a decade with my husband, our two daughters, and our very active dog. When I’m not painting, my family and I are likely eating at our favorite Charleston restaurants, playing at the beach, helping with science homework, hanging with our neighbors, or watching Parks and Rec or The Office for the 700th time.  In another life, I would be a writer for Saturday Night Live- but not an actual cast member because I lack any real stage talent or singing ability.  I cannot wink, I think mezcal tastes like an old shoe, and I absolutely will not watch anything scary, suspenseful, or violent. I don’t have any food allergies (#blessed), and I love to read but I’m painfully slow at it. My ideal day would involve a good workout, brunch with my friends, a drink by the ocean, and dinner with my family. Oh and I’d in bed by 9.
