THE GALLERY AT SWEETGRASS
“The Gallery at Sweetgrass is nestled into the Sweetgrass Plaza in Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms. The Gallery showcases regionally and nationally recognized artists that have created pieces celebrating the beauty, color and tranquility of our coastal locale.”
I had the immense privilege of being the Resident Artist at The Gallery at Sweetgrass for three years where I used the gallery’s beautiful front window studio space to paint in-person three days a week. It was the absolute joy of a lifetime not only to have a designated workspace where I was able to create and sell my work, but also to have created and fostered such special relationships around the resort. From annual vacationers to daily members and regular faces across the Wild Dunes community and team, I loved making connections with each person I met.
I learned to view The Gallery through the eyes of a browsing consumer, an established local, a businessperson, a tourist, a child, or an art enthusiast. Each person enjoyed something unique about the gallery- whether it was within my work or another artist’s- that made me feel like a part of the greater art community, the person’s Wild Dunes experience, or maybe even a part of their home or life, should they decide to purchase a piece of my work. It was truly a humbling and special experience to have someone love and invest in something I worked so hard for, and I am so thankful not just for the people who spent time viewing and appreciating my work, but also for the team at The Gallery at Sweetgrass who still works so hard to represent me and the other artists. I am so grateful to have shared their workspace and see the living, breathing walls of a gallery in action, and I will cherish the experience as their resident artist as a career and lifetime high.
not only was this a place to paint...
and grow artistically...
